About

HPA (HP Architects & Heritage Architects) was established in 2002. We offer a range of architectural services that produce functional and sustainable design solutions for Building Conservation, Public Buildings, and Residential Buildings. HPA is a small office (by choice) and the flat organisational structure allows for creative and innovative thinking, coupled with optimal workflows.

HPA is positioned to leverage resources with the purpose to reach a wider global audience. The hpa CONSORTIUM brings together key disciplines with a significant global footprint. Our team of South Africa-based qualified professionals are well versed in working with diverse cultures in different regions of the world. The hpa CONSORTIUM is well positioned to achieve significant results through negotiating solutions and we pride ourselves in our track record of completing projects on time and in budget.

HPA specialises in the field where building conservation intersects with large-scale commercial projects. Our team has proven the cost-effectiveness of restoration and refurbishment may times over, in contrast to demolishing and starting over with new build. We are conscious of the fact that our planet is a finite resource and that we should think twice before carting more construction demolition waste off to dump sites – the starting point is to work with what we have.

Our team understands the power of narrative as a tool to tell a story using the building fabric (both historic and contemporary), and we aim to weave this narrative through our projects in many ways.

HPA produces commercial, institutional, and residential architecture with an authentic relationship to history, context, community, and the natural environment. The result is buildings and spaces that are functional, aesthetically pleasing, durable, and historically conscious.
