Curelitzia female residence (constructed in 1934) is situated on the Medical Campus of the University of Pretoria (UP). The building previously housed nursing students placed at the Pretoria Academic Hospital (now Steve Biko Academic Hospital). Curelitzia was designed in a Neo- Romanesque style by the Department of Public Works. The double storey brick-and-mortar building currently houses 370 students from the UP Faculty of Health Sciences.
HPA was appointed in 2018 to oversee a complete restoration of the building façades and the original timber sash windows and shutters. Lime-based paint had to be carefully removed from the façades and was replaced with a contemporary paint system. The transformation of this stately old building was astonishing. Happy ending for an old building!
