The oldest female residence at the University of Pretoria was established in the early 1920s. Plans for the building were drawn up by the Department of Public Works in 1924, and construction commenced in 1925. The first residents moved in on 24 September 1926. Various additions and alterations were made over the years to accommodate the growing number of students.
HPA was appointed to oversee the full restoration and refurbishment of this historic building, with services (electrical and wet services) upgraded to a contemporary and sustainable model. 14 additional loft bedrooms were installed (at 50% of cost for new build) in the newly re-discovered double volume roof space above the original dining hall.
