The science of moving an entire town: in 2011, HPA was appointed by Anglo American's Kumba Iron Ore (Northern Cape) to plan and facilitate the relocation of 517 families (35 000 people) from the mining village of Dingleton to the town of Kathu, 20 km northeast of Dingleton.
The newly designed suburb, Siyatemba, was a greenfields project. The relocation of the Dingleton residents became a priority as the Sishen Iron Ore Mine grew steadily toward the edge of the village, posing health and safety risks to the residents. Mining activity must be set back at a distance of 500 m from any residential zone.
